Packing fiasco

Woman's bathing suit, 1920s, USAImage via Wikipedia

I suppose I'll go back to the night I tried to pack for the VA beach trip. Someone (might be me) has moved my swimsuits. All of them. So instead of just packing a new one I had bought I spent the night trying to find the missing (20 or so) suits. I always have things so nicely planned out in my mind, like trying on suits before I pack them, trying on outfits and packing them as a finished product including shoes. Somehow it just doesn't work out that way. I spent the night looking through 3 closets, all my under bed storage and through about 10 totes in an extra room (EBay stuff I never list.) I have to get up at 5 a.m. so naturally I’m still suit hunting at midnight. I give up on the suits about 1. I am too tired to really pack like a normal person. So I throw half my closet in a suitcase. In my defense I was doing homework the past few days (which put a damper on my fantasy of neatly packing) so I wouldn’t have to take the homework on vacation.
I manage a few hours of sleep, get up to throw the bags in the car, and decide to just take one last look in the extra room. I find my suits in a garbage bag in a milk crate (don’t ask). YES!!! So I open my suitcase and throw them all in. (I didn’t have time to try them on and I was half asleep) I might be running a bit behind. (Lisa I didn’t really believe you when you said it would be a 12 hour drive, my bad.) Lisa had mentioned (only once, so I didn’t listen) the fact that we were going in her car, her two nephews were coming along (like boys pack much stuff) so not to bring a lot of bags. I heard “Nancy bring what you need”. So I arrive a bit late at her house. I think it’s best to keep her busy while I throw the bags in the car. However, she decides to help and, with huge eyes, she mentions the fact that her nephews have bags to fit in the trunk also. So I mention that they’re boys and that boys never pack much stuff. After her nephews and sister have called a few times and were wondering if we were still going (hello I had to stuff my suits in my suitcase, it took awhile) we go get her nephews. We now have three nephews to stuff in the backseat, and guess what they didn’t take much, only like 2 suitcases.
More later…
